Impound Unit

Welcome to the Suffolk County Police Impound Section.

The following information is being provided to answer the most common questions associated with vehicle impounds and the procedures for claiming vehicles after they have been released. Please keep in mind each situation is different & some exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.

Also no vehicle can be released without authorization from the Investigating Officer, Detective, ADA or County Attorney assigned to the case. While we have no control over these matters we will do our best to assist you. However, the ultimate responsibility lies with you and/or your attorney to resolve these issues.

When you call our office please provide the following information so we may assist you: either the CC# (central complaint) OR the last 6 characters of the VIN. We have an inventory of approximately 3000 vehicles and need this information to search our records.

Multi-faceted vehicle transactions, commercial vehicle transactions, or transactions involving large amounts of fees will require a scheduled appointment.
