Yes, we do have a police explorer program. Law enforcement exploring is a learning for life, career and leadership development program which gives youth insight into the skills and techniques needed to succeed in life and as a police officer. The program is supported by the Boy Scouts of America as well as the Suffolk County Police Department. This specialty youth career oriented program is endorsed by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Sheriff's Association. More than 2,800 police and sheriff's departments have organized explorer posts specializing in law enforcement. While explorers do not perform as police officers, they can provide assistance in public service programs, such as crime prevention programs. The explorers have the benefit of seeing first hand what exactly the law enforcement profession entails and whether or not they would like to pursue this as their chosen profession. The Police Explorer Program is open to all youth from ages 14 to 20.

No, the Suffolk Police Department does not perform employment fingerprinting.

CAN I GET MY FINGERPRINTS TAKEN AT MY PRECINCT FOR IMMIGRATION PURPOSES?

All fingerprinting for immigration purposes, including applications for "green cards", is done by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The nearest USCIS Application Support Center is located at 30 Barretts Avenue, Holtsville, NY, 11742. The nationwide information and customer service telephone number is 1-800-375-5283.

Any person who is active or takes an interest in their community or who holds the title of a civic leader, religious leader, elected official, etc. may apply.  Classes are generally conducted in the evening, usually once a week for about three hours.  The Civilian's Academy varies in length according to the program. You will be notified by mail when the class is forming. All applicants are subject to a background check.

You can remain anonymous and a reward may be available if an arrest is made as a result of your tip.  To report illegal drug sales in progress, please call (631) 852-COPS (2677) immediately to report it.

Callers are asked to provide as much descriptive information as possible, i.e. suspect’s name, address, license plate number, vehicle make, model, color, etc.

Yes, the Suffolk County Police Department does participate in a free child identification program. Parents or guardians can have their child photographed, fingerprinted, and document important physical identifying characteristics via our mobile system. Parents or guardians will be given a hard copy or digital copy of their child’s identification page. Information provided by parents IS NOT saved by the department or recorded in any departmental record keeping.
