Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle crash killed a motorcyclist this morning in Stony Brook.

Jerry Diaz was riding a 2022 Honda 450RLCRF westbound on Nesconset Highway, when the motorcycle collided with a northbound 2017 GMC truck turning left onto westbound Nesconset Highway from New Moriches Road at 12:22 a.m.

Diaz, 24, of Nesconset, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the GMC, Mark Anthony Giordano, 25, of St. James, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 6.

The vehicles were impounded. Major Case Unit detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call 631-852-6553.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
