Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the drowning death of a man at the ocean beach of Sailors Haven today.

Ishmoile Mohammed was swimming in the ocean when he got caught in a rip current pulling him west. Lifeguards rescued Mohammed from the water at approximately 2:45 p.m. and with the assistance of Fire Island National Seashore employees, rendered aid. 

Mohammed, 59, of South Carolina, was airlifted to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.
