The couple killed in a motor vehicle crash in Ronkonkoma on August 23 has been identified as Walter Jakubowski, 83, and his wife Margaret Jakubowski, 75, of Ronkonkoma.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed two people in Ronkonkoma today.

A man was driving a Subaru Forester westbound on Peconic Street when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, left the roadway and struck a tree at 11:20 a.m.

The driver and female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending positive identification from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
