Teenager Arrested for Stabbing Second Teen During Altercation

Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 6:07 p.m.

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Sayville teenager for stabbing a 17-year-old during an altercation at Smith Point Beach in Shirley.

Alexander Murphy was on the outer beach of Smith Point Beach in Shirley when he stabbed a 17-year-old Selden teenager in the back with a knife during an altercation at 6:07 p.m. The victim, who is not being identified because of his age, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Murphy, 18, of 30 Lincoln Ave., was also taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip upon being released from the hospital.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
