Child Riding Bicycle Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured an 8-year-old boy riding a bicycle in Wyandanch yesterday.Darrin Benion was riding his bicycle northbound on Brook Avenue near Spruce Street, when he veered into the middle of the roadway and was struck by a 2016 Honda CR-V, driven by Myaysia Lloyd.

Benion, of Mastic, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries. Lloyd, 25, of Wyandanch, was uninjured.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check. Lloyd was issued a summons for driving with a permit only. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
