Woman Arrested for DWAI After Motor Vehicle Crash Seriously Injures Pedestrian

Sunday, July 27, 2025 at approximately 12:35 a.m.

Suffolk County Police arrested a woman for driving while ability impaired after her vehicle hit and seriously injured a pedestrian in Medford early this morning. 

Tia Gardner was driving a 2024 Hyundai Kona eastbound on Express Drive South, just east of Exit 64, when the vehicle struck a man who was attempting to cross the roadway on foot at approximately 12:35 a.m.

The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Responding Sixth Precinct Patrol officers and Highway Patrol officers determined that Gardner was impaired and placed her in custody. Gardner, 26, of 34 Roberts St., Mastic, was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired. She is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 27.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
