Scooter Operator Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a scooter operator in North Bellport this afternoon.

A 20-year-old man was operating an electric scooter northbound on Macdonald Avenue when the scooter struck a 2015 Kia Optima at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue. The scooter then struck a 2015 Hyundai Accent traveling eastbound on Atlantic Avenue at 3:14 p.m. The scooter operator, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Kia, Cheryl Butler, 63, of East Patchogue, was uninjured. The driver of the Hyundai, Ever Parada Acevedo, 40, of Central Islip, and a passenger in the vehicle were uninjured.

The vehicles and electric scooter were impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-
